Working mothers still chained to the kitchen sink

When it comes to division of labour, overworked mothers are still the ones finding themselves chained to the kitchen sink. A new survey has shown that wives and mothers are still doing the majority of the grocery shopping and cooking, as well as the cleaning and washing up. The study, conducted by Moen, also aimed to identify different types of cooks. According to Jack Suvak, senior director of market research and insights for Moen, 42 percent of people are Family Cooks who enjoy cooking and cook regularly. Adventurous Cooks make up 31 percent of the population. They enjoy experimenting with new recipes and love to try complicated new cooking techniques. However, the survey found that 18 percent disliked cooking, preferring to order take-aways. Nine percent of those surveyed were classed as Cautious Cooks, who might enjoy cooking but suffer from anxiety that their creations will fail. Mr Suvak added More women are Family Cooks and more men are Adventurous Cooks. The survey also found that neither men nor women enjoy washing up with the most disagreeable of tasks being washing up pots and pans in the kitchen sink. More than 80 percent reduce this misery by using a dishwasher.
