Unwanted presents flushed down kitchen sink

Posted by Sinks on 27th Jun 2017

A water company is warning residents of Yorkshire not to flush unwanted gifts down their kitchen sinks. Unbelievably, Yorkshire Water said a range of inappropriate items, including small Christmas trees, had been appearing at its sewage works. The company said it had been forced to deal with more than 18,000 blockages from its sewers this year, with 37 per cent of these being caused by fat, nappies and other waste. It said the problem has cost the firm more than 2 million.Other items that have arrived at the companys treatment works since Christmas Day include cuddly toys, pieces of Lego, novelty socks and, presumably, an unwanted CD by this years X Factor winners. A number of miniature Christmas trees have also floated into several sewage works. Yorkshire Waters Matt Thompson said Were no longer surprised to see unwanted presents coming into our treatment works. Its always disappointing, particularly as we work so hard to educate people on the dangers of using our sewers as a giant rubbish bin. Just because you dont want Little Mixs record or those socks that grandma has lovingly knitted for you, it doesnt mean that we do. Were asking people to do the right thing and make sure they dispose of their rubbish in the correct way, rather than risk blocking our sewers and potentially flooding their own homes with sewage.
