Tap into Water gains football support

A utilities firm is urging people to get back to the tap and kick the habit of drinking bottled water and a series of football teams in the north-west have responded to the call. According to the Manchester Evening News, Oldham Athletic, Rochdale FC and Bury Football Club have all pledged to use more tap water, in response to United Utilities (UU) Tap into Water campaign. The firm has sounded the alarm over the environmental wastefulness of shipping bottled water across the country and racking up air miles, while sending plastic containers to landfill that take up to 1,000 years to biodegrade. British tap water is second to none in offering a clean, cheap and healthy option, the group claims, with some kitchen taps such as the Franke Triflow range even offering purification settings to provide an even higher quality of tap water. Launching the Tap into Water campaign, Philip Green, UU chief executive, said At a time when we are facing such huge environmental challenges, buying bottled water at the rate of three billion bottles a year in the UK is clearly unsustainable.I cant see the logic in spending money on bottled water when we have such high quality water available on tap.
