Singer sets standards in sustainable tap usage

Kitchen taps are being hailed as an answer to environmental wastefulness and a sensible alternative to bottled water, but the faucet is also the location of new technologies for cutting wasteful use of key resources. British singer KT Tunstall this week told the Scottish newspaper the Sunday Herald that she was looking to achieve a 75 per cent cut in water usage thanks to new taps that form part of an extensive eco-revamp. Carrying out an environmentally friendly overhaul of her kitchen in Harlesden, north-west London, the singer claimed that three quarters of water usage could be cut in kitchen and bathroom sinks, while envisaging a 20 per cent water saving due to new toilets.Tap technology has developed over recent years to meet concerns for water waste and sustainability, with water saving cartridges and well-adapted aerators and litre spray inserts often installed in new models. Monobloc mixer taps, such as Gessis single-lever Energy Monobloc Mixer 16601, are often tipped as a means of keeping water waste to a minimum and avoiding needlessly running two taps in order to achieve the requisite temperature. A water brake function can also be in operation on monobloc mixer taps, helping users to avoid raising the water flow to unnecessary levels when performing simple tasks in the kitchen sink.
