Retro styles may return to kitchen design

Simple, retro design styles may return to kitchens in the coming decade, an expert has suggested.Pat Ryan, a kitchen and bath designer, told the Riverhead News Review that renovations could increasingly adopt the sparse designs of the 1950s. The big, heavy moldings of the last ten years where every cabinet looked like a piece of furniture are being replaced by simple slab door styles, he noted.Among other observations, Mr Ryan said that cabinet colours are now returning to honey shades rather than the bleached wood and very dark options of the last decade.Mr Ryans comments formed part of the newspapers survey of coming trends in interior design. Cindy Schmidt, a design company owner, commented that there would be more options to allow homeowners to go green, including recycled glass countertops for kitchen sink areas. This week an eco-conscious interior designer showed the Sun-Times Media how she was able to create recycled countertops out of the glass from old airport runway lights.ADNFCR-1321-ID-19544863-ADNFCR
