Home Information Packs (Hips) have looked likely to encourage a green revolution in home design, but the scheme is coming increasingly under fire.Criticism has mounted claiming that the packs are irrelevant and outside of normal homeowner concerns, with Haart Estate Agents research showing that only ten per cent of prospective house buyers showed an interest in seeing the information.Hips comprising detailed energy efficiency ratings for a property have been made compulsory for all three or four bedroom homes, with the ensuing rating expected to influence increasingly green-minded buyers.Subsequent attempts to spruce up properties environmental credentials were hotly anticipated, but the Haart research findings suggest that sellers would avoid large scale green home improvements if potential buyers are uninterested. Those taking the new schemes into account have embarked on DIY projects and professional revamps to improve items of home design like wall insulation and kitchen waste management, but the figures suggest green-conscious buyers may still be a minority.A government spokesman was reported by the Daily Telegraph as saying Hips include crucial information on the energy efficiency of a home and include searches which the buyer will need to complete a sale.
