Mobile devices and apps becoming as vital as the kitchen sink

Posted by Sinks on 27th Jun 2017

Mobile devices, including the iPhone and IPad, are becoming as essential in some kitchens as the kitchen sink. Much-loved cookbooks such as Joy of Cooking by Irma S. Rombauer and Marion Rombauer and Mastering the Art of French Cooking by celebrity chef Julia Childs are now sharing vital worktop space with more modern recipes in audio and video format. However, whilst mobile devices are capable of adding life to recipes, they cannot replicate special recipes passed down through generations. According to app review blog Appmodo, 40 percent of iPad owners use their devices in their kitchens. The result has been a flood of apps vying for the attention of professional chefs and keen amateur cooks. The second most popular app in Apples App Store is The Culinary Institute of Americas The Professional Chef which is also listed as the most popular lifestyle app in the store. The app includes 800 recipes and more than 750 high-quality photographs of ingredients, kitchen tools and finished recipes for 34.99. There are also many free apps available. One of the most downloaded cooking apps for the iPad is Conde Nasts Epicurious which is designed to bring recipes together from a variety of sources, including Bon Apptit magazine and Gourmet magazine. It also features recipes from professional chefs specifically suuplied for the app. A free version of Epicurious features more than 30,000 recipes and has the facility to manage a shopping list. One of the apps paid-for features the function to incorporate and catalog your own recipes can be added separately for 1.99.
