Kitchen sink dishwashing should be avoided

People that have been told by their mothers to wash dishes in the kitchen sink may have been misled. That is the opinion of Siobhan OConnor and Adam Matthews, writing for Good Magazine. According to the duo, even filling the kitchen sink before washing pots and pans will waste more water than a conventional dishwasher. Washing dishes by hand, if you have a 7-gallons-per-minute faucet and run the water for 10 minutes, can use as many as 70 gallons of water, they stated. While plugging up a kitchen sink while washing up is well advised, the pair noted, it still squanders more water than a dishwasher, with economical appliances using as little as four gallons. Only boiling as much water in the kettle as is needed is another way that environmentally-friendly people can conserve their fluid usage, they stated.Last week, head of water at the Environment Agency Ian Barker said that six per cent of the UKs carbon emissions each year are related to water consumption.
