Kitchen overhaul for lucky homeowner

An all-hands-to-the pump complete kitchen overhaul has shown the benefits that homeowners can draw from inventive and environmentally-friendly kitchen design. A century-old home in the northern US state of Wisconsin was made the subject of a donated Green Built Home Makeover, with changes made from sink to boiler in order to make the kitchen and other rooms up to 75 per cent more energy efficient. The Wisconsin State Journal said that house owner Hazel Tookes was selected from a list of people needing house design renewal but unable to afford it, with designers and local companies clubbing together to provide the 100,000 (49,000) revamp. First in line for renewal was the kitchen, with a new sink, dishwasher and cabinets fitted in with ultra-modern counter-tops. Changes were carried out along environmentally-friendly lines, with designers claiming that sustainably-sourced materials were used in cabinets, flooring and all else. Revamping a kitchen can mean significant changes to sinks, taps and other appliances, with some people taking on tasks themselves, and others calling in the experts for more complicated procedures.
