Kitchen memories drive received continued interested

As the National World War Two Museum in New Orleans appeals for members of the US public to contribute their kitchen memories to a new national archive, one columnist has received some interesting tales from her readers.Writing for Newsday, Sylvia Carter has revealed a few of the stories sent in to her over recent weeks. Among the usual tales of favourite recipes and longed-for smells and tastes, one or two feature some unexpected excitement.Virginia resident Peggy Morgan recalls a riotous incident during an otherwise uneventful day.She wrote One day the commissary managed to get hold of a few cartons of Jell-O, and they sent it around on the cart. My mother described the scene when the cart came through the door. Someone spotted it and yelled, Hes got Jell-O! Workers leapt from desktop to desktop to get to the cart. My mother and another woman who worked there had small children and a man who was among the first to see the Jell-O grabbed two boxes and gave one to each of them.
