Kitchen designers will be keen to see Meryl Streeps new film Its Complicated, which features a home renovation as a key part of its story. The film is directed by Nancy Meyers, the same woman behind the 2003 film Somethings Gotta Give, which drew wide interest for the stylish design of its interior sets, the Washington Post reports.Jon Hutman, the new films production designer, spoke to the newspaper about his design choices for the rooms and kitchen at the home in which Jane, Meryl Streeps character, lives.Mr Hutman said that the design combined classic elements with a modern aesthetic, making use of old wood on the doors, dining table and floors as well as an Italian influence for the use of colour and materials. He added that he had tried to make the kitchen design both stylish and functional. Part of what Jane is building in the renovation is the combination family room-kitchen thing, and its what shes tried to create within the framework of her existing house. . . . Its totally attractive and comfortable but in a lived-in way, Mr Hutman told the news provider. The Las Vegas Review Journal reported recently that a luxury housing development had used kitchen islands to create both practical and attractive, open rooms.
