Kitchen caddy scheme given go-ahead

Posted by Sinks on 27th Jun 2017

A kitchen caddy scheme will be introduced in one area of Watford following a local council vote.Councillors voted in favour of plans to supply every home in the Three Rivers District with a small food recycling bin. It is hoped the small caddies will lead to an increase in organic recycling rates and the extension of the scheme follows a successful pilot last year.According to the Watford Observer, councillor Phil Brading told members of the Three Rivers District Council We know some people wont want or use them but even if just a small number do we will see a significant increase in the amount of food waste recycled.Homeowners who live in areas where the kitchen caddy scheme has yet to be introduced can reduce their food waste with a waste disposer unit.Affordable models are available from brands including In-Sink-Erator and Carron Phoenix. A waste disposer grinds food into miniscule particles that can pass through domestic drainage systems, therefore reducing the amount of household rubbish sent to landfill.
