Kitchen advice for energy-savers

A number of myths about saving energy in the kitchen may not be true, according to an editorial on TheDemocrat.com.While some people are under the impression that measures such as replacing an older heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system with a new model or washing dishes by hand may be the most energy-efficient strategies to take at home, this may not always be the case. The writer asserted that, according to GreenerChoices.org, families only save money by washing dishes in their sinks when there are just a few dishes to do - otherwise it is more eco-friendly to use a dishwasher.Furthermore, it was suggested that older HVAC systems may not need to be replaced, but may benefit instead from recommendations made by an inspector such as changing dirty filters or identifying restrictions in the airflow.Last month, Caroline Rams of the Energy Saving Trust stated that some 69 per cent of people admit they try to make an effort to buy eco-friendly products and accessories for their homes. However, more than 1 billion worth of energy is thought to be wasted in the UK by leaving appliances on standby.
