Council shake up searches for waste solution

Trafford council is the latest local government body to consider a shake-up of its refuse collection and waste management services. The council is consulting the public as it considers plans such as the issuing of food slop buckets and fortnightly rubbish collection while more radical changes have been ruled out.Changes involving placing electronic chips in rubbish bins and charging per amount of waste have reportedly been sidelined, however the council did confirm that in order to reduce landfill waste it would provide new plastic and cardboard recycling services.According to ThisIsCheshire.co.uk, local councillor June Reilly said We face a penalty of 150 for every tonne we take to landfill over government targets. We risk many millions of pounds in fines. Her reported concerns and those of Cheshire councils reflect the new imperatives of local authorities across the UK, who are attempting to revamp their waste management with some local bodies backing sink waste disposal units as a means of cutting waste.Sink waste disposal units can cut landfill waste by churning up food leftovers into a sewer-ready liquid, while other products from In-Sink-Erator, like its waste compacter, make landfill-destined waste as dense as possible.
