New survey findings have revealed that Brits are returning to the kitchen in force, as celebrity chefs and a new interest in cuisine inspires people to ditch ready meals and don the over gloves, according to the Express. The newspaper revealed that as many as half the 1,500 respondents to a Marks Spencer survey said that they were cooking more and more, as they sought culinary satisfaction over convenience.Far from being a chore, nearly a third of those surveyed claimed that getting reacquainted with sinks, taps and chopping boards and making meals from scratch was therapeutic after a stressful day, while more than a quarter enjoyed the fun of trying out new recipes.Despite the upsurge in cooking, having a personal chef on hand was identified as the top kitchen wish, suggesting the importance of high-profile celebrity chefs like Jamie Oliver, Nigella Lawson and Gordon Ramsay in sparking the kitchen renaissance. The Marks and Spencer survey singled out chicken curry as the meal that people most enjoyed making from scratch, indicating the move of ethnic foods from ready-meal treat to home-cooking favourite.Talkingretail.com said that as ethnic food items are starting to take hold in supermarkets, primary ingredients rather than ready meals are booming for the mature Indian food market, which has seen ready meal sales decline 7.6 per cent since 2002.
