Women buying more gadgets than men

Women are set to overtake men as the top gadget buyers in the UK, according to retailer John Lewis.The new report has claimed that this winter women are likely to be responsible for between 50 and 60 per cent of all purchases in the stores electrical departments, with kitchen gadgets lining up alongside iPods, computer consoles and digital photo frames on womens wish-lists.The appeal of technology to women is cross-generational, from young women who have grown up with technology, to women who have been exposed to technology at work and older, motivated self-learners who are all embracing new products which help them capture memories, stay organised and keep in touch, Helen Keppel Compton, from the company, told the Sunday Times.Kitchen gadgets are proving especially popular for both men and women this winter, as cooking and eating healthily has become one of the years in-vogue ideas.And eager chefs are after everything from digital spice racks to digital egg-timers and instant boiling hot water producing tap systems this winter.
