Waste disposal unit sales booming in Worcestershire

A cashback scheme to encourage the use of waste disposal units is being successfully pioneered by local councils in Worcestershire and Herefordshire, with successful results now reported in several communities.Manufacturers have noted a rise in the sales of sink waste disposal units from leading brands like InSinkErator and Carron Phoenix in the Worcestershire town of Bromsgrove and Droitwich, as green-conscious residents respond to the scheme.Under the cashback arrangements, residents of either county can fill in a claim form and receive subsidised payment via cheque once they have purchased an environmentally-friendly waste disposal unit.Jeremy Howell-Thomas, Worcestershire County Council project development officer, said The boom in demand can be partly traced to peoples attitudes changing in the face of variations in methods of collecting household waste. The increasing trend for food waste disposers has led to more brands appearing on the market such as Caple, Franke and Carron Phoenix, while the InSinkErator models often remain favourites with larger families. He explained that increasing numbers of people were realising that chicken bones and other biodegradable leftovers need not be sent to landfill, making sink waste disposal units a sound and responsible kitchen choice for many.
