Next to launch online kitchen range

A leading clothing and homewares retailer is to turn its attention to the web, where fitted kitchens are set to prove a key product area.High-street favourite Next has announced that it will be selling ranges of fitted kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms both online and through its catalogue, allowing kitchen specialists access to a wide array of sinks, taps and other appliances.The move comes as the homeware and kitchen sector experiences a flurry of interest, with supermarket giant Tesco bursting onto the market just over a year ago with its homeware and DIY lines, providing new competition for BQ and Homebase stores.But web retail, through which sink specialists like Franke and Astracast offer their products directly to clients, is now growing in popularity and driving high street stores to up their e-tailing portfolio, a trend evidenced by Nexts plans.Simon Wolfson, Nexts chief executive, told Retail Week that his companys focus would on the web, where kitchen items and other products can unleash infinite possibilities and find new markets.Discussing Nexts kitchen plans, he added The new products are a good fit for us in terms of a comprehensive home offer. We will continue to look for new [product] areas.
