Tastes in kitchen design have just as much to do with nostalgia and tradition as they do with innovation and modernity, it has been suggested.While traditional elements can recall happy childhood memories of times spent in the kitchen, modern features have their benefits in making cooking a more enjoyable experience.This is according to Carolyn Muse Grant, who has reflected on how modern touches should be incorporated in even the most traditional of kitchen designs.Writing for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Ms Grant suggests that rather than the actual hardware of older kitchens that is still desired more than likely its the smell of freshly baked cookies or whatever aroma you remember from your childhood that you are missing.Everybody wants the modern appliances and trimmings that make cooking and working in the kitchen a joy.In light of these mixed feelings common in designing a home kitchen, leading manufacturers offer a mix of traditional and contemporary styles.Models from Swiss firm Franke such as fragranite sinks offer the latest in technology and construction materials, while some tap designs recall the country kitchen styles of yesteryear.
