Homeowners have been advised to disinfect all frequently touched surfaces including kitchen taps and sinks during the current flu season.April MacIntyre of calabasas.patch.com notes that while the winter brings with it a rise in the number of people contracting flu and colds, there are also various simple measures that can be taken to lessen the transmission of germs. These include regularly washing all kitchen and bath towels, sheets, blankets and throws used around common areas like the sofa. The kitchen towel is one of the most heavily contaminated items in the home, toss it in the wash every day and replace, she said.In addition to kitchen taps and sinks, Ms MacIntyre advised disinfecting knobs, kitchen counters, telephones, refrigerator handles and TV remotes. Her comments come after Dr Vikram Kumar argued in an article for Forbes India that water accumulation in and around the kitchen sink can have a major bearing on hygiene levels.
