Kitchen nightmares prevented by new register

A new standards register introduced by the Kitchen, Bathroom and Bedroom Industries National Training Group could help prevent rogue traders taking advantage of people looking to renovate their property, one expert has claimed. Chief executive officer of the National Association for Professional Inspectors and Testers John Andrews said that the regulations should help to reduce the amount of complaints received by the Office of Fair Trading. Currently only covering kitchen installers, the Industry Standards Register (ISR) is expected to extend across all building sectors and will help homeowners to discover whether a contractor is certified. Mr Andrews remarked We dont want complaints, we dont want the dream that youve had when you have a new kitchen designed turn into a nightmare because things are going wrong.Furthermore, individuals will also benefit from the fact that all those who are on the ISR will have had a Criminal Records Bureau check.
