Kitchen owners should consider their needs in older age when selecting appliances and layouts, an expert has said.Michael Kitchener of Kitcheners Kitchens in the US told North Side News that people should consider both today and tomorrow when designing their kitchens. As you grow older, energy levels can change, so you want a kitchen that wont put a strain on your body, he added.Mr Kitchener said more than 35 per cent of his customers are aged over 55, and noted that to cater for such clients, his company emphasises durability and low maintenance fixtures. These include a range of pullout drawers which are based on an advanced sensory system that only requires a light touch. In addition, Mr Kitchener said that because older people have less mobility, sight and stamina, the placement of appliances such as the kitchen sink and refrigerator, can make an important difference.A recent report by Newsok.com claimed that having a well-designed and equipped kitchen can also make it much easier and efficient to prepare nutritional meals.
