Kitchen design must account for children

Good kitchen design must take into consideration that the space is likely to be used by or at least explored by children.According to Susanne Woelk, managing director of The Safe House, in Hamburg, bubbling and gurgling on the stove can be an interesting attraction to children and a significant danger. She claimed A stove guard in front of the burners keeps children from pulling pots down onto themselves. There are also safety latches and locks for drawers that make it impossible for children to take out knives and other dangerous objects, she added. She also suggested that appliances should be kept away from the edges of kitchen worktops as young children are often fond of pulling on dangling cabling. But first and foremost, Woelk claimed, children should never be left unattended in the kitchen.Recently, Andrew Bernard, JMLs DIY and car care presenter, claimed that safety should be a top priority when carrying out DIY projects in the kitchen.
