Kitchen becoming public space

Posted by Sinks on 27th Jun 2017

The kitchen has moved from being a private space to being the most public of rooms in recent years, it has been claimed.Ann Robinson and Annie Vernon of Deseret News have categorised rooms in the home as being either private, semi-private or public and the kitchen has gone through all of these stages over the years. The duo claimed that the kitchen was originally designed as a private space that guests would never view, but this changed as it became more of a family space in the 1950s.Nowadays, it is a completely public room, as there is a current penchant for opening spaces. This needs to be reflected in kitchen design, with the likelihood that guests will spend time in the kitchen meaning that more emphasis is being put on making kitchens stylish and presentable as well as highly practical. It was also suggested by Ms Robinson and Ms Vernon that a public room should not be next to a private room as this can lead to a loss of sequence in a home.ADNFCR-1321-ID-19074915-ADNFCR
