International Space Station gets new kitchen

Improvements to the International Space Station will include the addition of a new kitchen, it has emerged. The latest space shuttle mission will include a package of hardware to be used in upgrading the living quarters aboard the orbiting facility.A key part of this will be a expansion of the kitchen area, with new units and a new fridge for those on board.Given the zero-gravity conditions it seems unlikely that the sinks and taps the space station will use will bear any resemblance to the conventional kind found back on earth. The International Space Station is in orbit around the earth at a height of 190 miles and became operational in 2000. It is manned by astronauts from several different countries including the USA and Russia. For a more down-to-earth but nonetheless innovative kitchen solution, design-lead Swiss firm Franke offers a range of sinks and taps designed with both practicality and style in mind.
