Homeowners planning to carry out kitchen DIY may want to ensure that their home insurance covers the work should an unexpected event occur.Making improvements to a kitchen could boost the value of a property, however, with the recession making many homeowners conscious of money, they may have reduced their insurance cover to save some cash.Finding cheaper home insurance is on the priority list of many homeowners, according to Legal General.However, the insurance company advised people that reducing or stopping home insurance altogether could be a false economy.We would just add a word of caution to ensure that household insurance customers are careful and do not find themselves with cover that is less than they really need, in return for that cheaper premium, Garry Skelton, marketing director at Legal Generals general insurance business, said.Richard McCullough, president of R A McCullough, recently told BusinessWest that homeowners are making practical additions to their home, such as a new kitchen, in order to make renovations more cost-effective during the recession.
