Experts hints at child-friendly kitchen design

Posted by Sinks on 27th Jun 2017

Children should not be excluded from the kitchen and the room should actually be designed with them in mind, it has been suggested.Writing for Kitchen Bath Design News, leading expert Mary Jo Peterson has suggested that a few key design features can make this part of the home safe and accessible for the younger members of the family. For example, Peterson proposes that a second Franke kitchen sink could be included under the counter level so that water can be accessed by the little ones, rather than having to boost themselves up on a stool to access the main appliance, which could be dangerous.Ms Peterson explained Often, when collecting information about the family and the activities that a new kitchen is to support, we hear about the children of the household. Sometimes it is a concern that the youngest child be included in the socializing, but be kept safe from the cooking. These issues create both a responsibility and an opportunity for designers.Ms Peterson advises that appliances that the child is allowed to use be positioned at a safe height, for example, but the fact that they grow up rather fast means that adjustable fixtures and fitting are always something to consider.ADNFCR-1321-ID-18972842-ADNFCR
