Could businesses benefit from lighting upgrades

Posted by Sinks on 27th Jun 2017

Businesses could save money by changing the type of lighting that they use to brighten their sink accessories, an expert has highlighted. If companies opt for more sustainable lighting systems, they could save more than a third of their electricity usage, a representative from the British Council for Offices (BCO) has stated. Paul Edwards, chair of the BCOs environmental sustainability group and head of sustainability at Hammerson, said If you go from a T8 light fitting, which have slightly bigger tubes, to a T5 light fitting, youll save 35 per cent instantaneously. If you work out your energy bill, you can normally see a payback on that. Mr Edwards also suggested that people could install presence detectors in offices, which will guarantee that lights are turned off before people leave. According to Electricity North West, companies in Greater Manchester have been asked to participate in a cutting-edge energy trial that will allow business and organisations to be paid for decreasing their energy usage when extra capacity is required for the grid.
