When using the kitchen sink to clean up around the kitchen, there are plenty of small tools that can be used to aid in the process. However, the kitchen sponge has been singled out as the item likely to be the most unsanitary, the Winnipeg Free Press has reported.People should consider this when tidying up around their kitchen, to ensure they are not spreading more germs in the process, according to Shamona Harnett, the publications healthy living expert. The sponge, regardless of what room its made for, can be one of the dirtiest objects in your home, she said.Sponges, by nature, tend to hold on to moisture and bacteria and even help them multiply. Wet and used dishcloths can harbour similar amounts of bacteria. To avoid spreading germs across your counters, disinfect your sponges and cloths with bleach and water solution after every use.Ms Harnett advised using both reusable cloths and paper towels as far better options than sponges when it comes to hygiene.
