Backsplash adds texture to kitchen sink area

Posted by Sinks on 27th Jun 2017

A homeowner has shown how he created evocative textures in his kitchen by using a range of materials.Mike Spangler, owner of metalworking firm SLO Works, told SanLuisObispo.com that he wanted the design of his coastal home to blend seamlessly into its environment. To achieve this he shaped and adapted materials to reflect the homes setting, including installing a steel cylinder under the kitchen bar which was rendered to give the effect of billowing seaweed. In the kitchen sink area, Mr Spangler used cast glass for the countertop and backsplash. Each piece was crafted to give a fluid, rippling effect evocative of the ocean. Elsewhere in the design, Mr Spangler looked to incorporate curves that would soften some of the hard lines found in other rooms in the home. In the kitchen this meant that a dropped ceiling, originally sketched out as angular, was bent into a gentle curve that extends to the living room fireplace.Earlier this month, Sally Bendelow, head of home design at Marks and Spencer, said that the kitchens status as the focal point of the home would encourage more people to test out new designs this year.ADNFCR-1321-ID-19570428-ADNFCR
