I'd say 90% of my family's Christmas takes place in the kitchen - cooking, preparing, washing up, opening up another bottle of wine. It all goes on here - with the help of one very large double kitchen sink which just about copes with the fourteen or so of us who descend on the one house each year. Which brings me on to this video, one of my first memories of TV advertising working on me - back in Christmas 1987, I NEEDED this toy, but the idea of swiss roll and beans has never appealed...

If someone was to give me an ultimatum of having a traditional home or a more modern look, I'd choose traditional every time. Maybe it's because I'm not the tidiest person in the world, but I love nooks and crannies, little objet d'arts and trinkets and above all the feel of a cosy home. My kitchen is a testament to this - a small range, lots of shelving with cook books covered in food stains and my pride of joy - a traditional ceramic sink.

. Great for all the cake making - and eating - that goes on!
